When Bovis Lend Lease Limited – Retail Division were appointed main contractors to build the Chapelfield Shopping Centre, they faced very severe construction and life safety requirements. These requirements had a huge impact on not only the cost but also the viability of the project.

In common with most buildings within the centre of historical towns and cities, access space for Fire Brigade vehicles is severely restricted should their presence be required in the unlikely event of a large fire occurring within the building.

Tyco were appointed by Bovis Lend Lease Limited to design and install a “wet riser” hydrant system throughout the Chapelfield shopping complex so that the Fire Brigade can connect their fire hoses direct to the hydrant main and fight any potential large fire immediately and independently without the need for the involvement of their fire fighting vehicles.
